Bittele Electronics is focused on board level Turnkey services. Once your PCB design is ready, there are a few files that you will need to generate in order for production to begin. For a turnkey order, we will require a bill of materials (BOM), centroid data, and of course your board designs in either Gerber or ODB++ format. In addition to the files just mentioned, it will also be helpful to include any additional files such as fabrication or assembly drawings, or any special instructions specific to the project. If your design is not fully completed, we do provide preliminary quotes based on early gerber files. We have provided further details on generating these files below.

Gerber/ODB++ Files

Gerber files are a set of files containing information about each layer of the PCB to be used for production. If you would like more information about these files, our guide for generating Gerber files from commonly used programs: Eagle can be found here, while KiCad can be found here.
Along with your Gerber files, be sure to also include the drill files and a board outline file. A drill file contains the location and size of all drill holes. There may be multiple files if blind/ buried vias are required. Please be sure to include all drill files to ensure none of your requirements are missed.
Mechanical files should also be included with your file set. For example, the board outline file is used for verifying the dimension of the board. You may also want to include any cut-outs or internal routing on this layer.
We also accept ODB++ file in lieu of Gerber files. These files are typically generated in an archive and include all fabrication files together.

Centroid file

The Centroid file (also known as a “Pick and Place” or “XY Coordinate” file) contains information about where each component is placed on the board, such as the x-y position, rotation, layer, reference designator and the value/package. Our guide for generating a centroid file can be found here.

Bill of Materials (BOM)

The BOM is a list of all the parts that will be populated on the board. These also include the parts that are DNI. Our Sample BOM can be found here.

Special Requirements

If your board contains any special requirements such as impedance control, gold fingers, blind/buried via, unique stack up/ thickness, etc., please include a document outlining your requirements. These requirements are commonly listed in “ReadMe” text files or “PDF” files.

Assembly Drawings

An assembly drawing is helpful when there is not enough space for all reference designators on the board. A document containing the assembly information of your board is most commonly sent as a “PDF” file.

Preliminary Files

If you are still working to finalize your design, we can typically generate a preliminary quote based on early Gerber files, or a detailed description. When you have finalized your design, we will review any updated files and modify your quote accordingly.
If you need any additional information regarding data requirements, please email sales@7pcb.com and one of our specialists will get in touch with you.

What is an SCH file?

An SCH file contains a schematic, or visual diagram, of a PCB (printed circuit board), created with EAGLE PCB design software. It stores symbols (for logic gates) connected by lines, which represent buses. SCH files are used for creating actual circuit board (.BRD) files.

Autodesk EAGLE (formerly known as CadSoft EAGLE) is a CAD application that professional electronics designers use to create PCB schematics and designs. EAGLE contains a schematic editor that designers use to create electronic circuit schematics, which are saved in SCH files.

After a designer creates a schematic, they can use EAGLE to place their schematic within a physical circuit board design. Those designs are saved in BRD files.

NOTE: EAGLE stands for 'Easily Applicable Graphical Layout Editor.'

How do I open an SCH file?

You can open an SCH file in a variety of PCB design applications, including:

Open
  • Autodesk EAGLE (cross-platform)
  • Altium Designer (Windows)

If you do not have access to any of the above applications, the easiest way to view the circuit board schematic contained within an SCH file is to upload it to Altium 365 Viewer, a free, online CAD file viewer (web).

Open over 300 file formats with File Viewer Plus.

Schematic file created and used by gEDA, a collection of tools used to design PCB layouts and electronic schematics; contains data that makes up the schematic; includes the gEDA/gaf format version, pictures, and XY coordinates for nets, buses, and components.

Electronic schematics consist of a collection of symbols, or components, nets, and buses. They are used during the schematics capture process in circuit design and once it has been created, it can then be passed to the printed circuit board design process.

File used by Strater, a program used for visualizing subsurface borehole and well log data; specifies the nomenclature (keywords, data range, lithology, etc.) and the display properties (line, text, symbol, fill, etc.) for design elements that use the nomenclature; enables designs to be created according to standards.

Strater schemes can be created and edited in the Scheme Editor, which is accessed by selecting Tools → Scheme Editor... from the application menu.

File created by the Shematic Capture Editor program included in KiCad, a tool suite used for designing PCB layouts and electronic schematics; saves an electronic schematic as it is laid out on the program's drawing canvas.

Electronic schematics are used during the schematics capture process in circuit design. Once the electronic schematic has been created, it can then be passed to the printed circuit board design process.

An SCH file contains a schematic, or visual diagram, of a printed circuit board PCB created with ExpressSCH design software. It stores an electronic schematic as it is laid out on the program's drawing canvas and includes symbols (for logic gates) connected by lines, which represent buses.

The ExpressSCH Schematics (SCH) file type is one of several schematic file types that use the .sch file extension. The ExpressSCH file type is a proprietary file format that is not supported by other Schematics programs. You can only open an ExpressSCH file with ExpressSCH software.

To open an SCH file with ExpressSCH, select File → Open.... To export an SCH file to a .BMP file with ExpressSCH, select File → Export schematic image....

Once a user finishes designing an electronic schematic, he passes it to the PCB design process. After the PCB is created, it is passed on to the manufacturing process to be assembled and put to use in various electronic products.
